self-expression, self-care

In my composition class, our professor created a project for us to stay in-touch with our mental state each week, where we're free to express our feelings in any medium we desire. Throughout this project, I've been using music as my method of this expression, especially since the pandemic has prevented music ensembles from rehearsing. In general, this class has been very meaningful to me as it has given me a toolset with which I can express my thoughts, emotions, and opinions in a variety of genres. I feel that I have gained the ability to produce creative content while communicating my opinions on topics that are important to me. As a whole, this course not only helped me learn to compose in a variety of formats, but also tie my personal identity, skills, and experiences into what I construct.

a window into robotics

One of the RSOs that I joined this year was UWROV (Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles). I have never done anything robotics-related before, so there has been a huge learning curve this quarter. In particular, I've been battling imposter syndrome around this as I'm very new to many of the technologies we are using - Linux, ROS, GitHub, VS Code, etc. All in all, even though it has been tough working through the training project, I feel like I've learned a lot and I've started to see why robotics is such a cool field. I'm looking forward to seeing our robot in competition. Meanwhile, I'll be busy learning lots of new skills and expanding my knowledge of computer science - even though it's difficult, I know that it is definitely worth it.

connected all throughout the world

I've been involved with FIUTS (Foundation for International Understanding Through Students) for a little while and I really enjoy facilitating events. This screenshot is from our Murder Mystery event in October, which was one of my favorites to date. In normal years, I put a lot of effort into Halloween get-togethers, and with the pandemic taking place this year, this was a wonderful virtual substitute. Most of the people attending the event, including myself, were entirely new to the idea of a murder mystery. I had a great time learning the ropes of the game and having the opportunity to hang out with wonderful people for Halloween. I'm looking forward to facilitating even more events since I love the feeling of community that I can create.
