underwater adventures

For UWROV, after a year of hard work and effort, we qualified for the MATE ROV World Championship! Our subteam spent a lot of time figuring out the camera technology for the ROV, and though it wasn't perfect by the time we submitted our qualifying video, it was still a great learning process - I really enjoyed seeing it in use. I was also super happy that I had the privilege to drive the ROV for the qualifying video. I had never done it before that day but it was extremely fun and rewarding to be able to complete the tasks with my peers supporting me. I look forward to making more improvements over the summer in anticipation of the World Championship!

carving through writer's block

This quarter, I spent a few weeks suffering through some hand and wrist pain. It was really difficult for me because I had to be away from my instruments in order to heal; without playing music, I felt rather sad and isolated. I had multiple doctors appointments which helped, though very slowly. And I still had music classes in school - I luckily didn't fall behind in these, but they still left me desperate to make music again. Once the majority of the pain was over, I was able to find the time to sit down and compose my own work as a way of expressing myself - I didn't write anything very difficult to play, as I mostly just wrote to express my feelings. Even though a lot of this experience was frustrating, it helped me realize that issues like this can always be overcome and that people around me (medical professionals, professors, and peers) are there to support me.

events unlike any other

This quarter, I was a member of the FIUTS Global Gala committee, which is essentially the event planning team for the annual Global Gala event. Normally, this event would be structured a little like a prom or homecoming dance and the theme would have to do with one specific culture. We managed to hold this super fun event online on Gather - I got to help out with the technical aspects of setting up the Gather space and also worked on the event content too.

Global Gala also doubles as a welcome and farewell for the old and new Student Board members, and I am thankful to have been selected as a Student Board member for next year! This gave the event even more meaning to me, as I not only helped coordinate it to make it happen, but was also creating memories for the Student Board members. I feel super inspired to see what positive change I can create during my time as a Student Board member!
