soaring to new heights

I achieved my L1 High Power Rocketry Certification through the Tripoli Rocketry Association. This involved building, flying, and recovering a high power rocket. This was also my first exploration into rocketry and aerospace. I learned a lot from this experience, because I got to do more hands-on work compared to most of my experiences with my computer science degree. I also learned a lot about overcoming some of my anxiety around design. When you work with epoxy, once you make a choice and commit to it, you can't go back and you have to trust that you're doing the right thing. So while I definitely learned a lot of technical skills, I think I really taught myself to trust myself more and believe in my ability to achieve cool results. I'm excited to continue exploring my rocketry endeavors.

sharing knowledge

As a result of my experiential learning activity from Summer 2021, I had the opportunity to attend CHI, the most prestigious research conference in Human-Computer Interaction. This was my first time going to a research conference and it was also excitingly my first time having any research paper published. I got to meet a lot of professionals, as well as find new topics that I was passionate about continuing to research. This experience showed me a lot about what a future in academia could be like. Before this point, I had considered software engineering to be my only career path after undergrad, but this helped me realize that research was a viable option where I can create impactful change in the communities around me. This ultimately sparked some of my future research involvement.
